When should I have my Ford brakes inspected?

Ford of Canada recommends that you follow your maintenance schedule and have your brakes inspected every 16,000 km. Depending on your driving habits, operating conditions and vehicle type, your service intervals can vary.

Have your brakes inspected sooner if you notice any signs of wear, which include:

  • Your brake pedal feels soft, squishy, or goes to the floor.
  • The brake system warning light turns on.
  • You feel a steering wheel vibration while driving, with or without the brakes applied.
  • You hear a squealing or grinding sound, with or without the brakes applied.
  • You smell a burning odour.
  • You see metallic flakes peeling off the brakes.
  • You see deep gouges or scratches on your brake rotors.

To learn more about your vehicle's recommended maintenance schedule or braking system, refer to your Owner’s Manual.

Maintaining Your Brakes

Since braking components are designed to wear down over time, regular inspections are essential for consistent performance. During a brake inspection visit, Ford technicians will check each brake for pad wear, inspect rotors for rough spots, and look for damage such as cracks or warping. If replacements are necessary, our technicians will install Motorcraft® parts which are designed and engineered for Ford vehicles, to deliver optimum performance.

Lifetime Brake Pad Warranty

Your vehicle may be eligible for replacement brake pads at no charge through Ford's Lifetime Brake Pad Warranty. To learn more about this program, refer to the What is the Lifetime Brake Pad Warranty on my Ford? article.
